It's Giving Tuesday and we, A Collective of Excellence (ACE), are kicking off our end-of-year fundraiser to further our non-profit's efforts of promoting excellence by providing experiential education opportunities across music, arts, culture, education, and technology.

Our total goal of $5000 makes a big impact in what we are trying to do and where we are aiming to go.

We’re on a mission to achieve 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and expand the impact of our annual flagship event, the ACE Spirit Week Festival, while continuing to nurture a thriving network of creators, leaders, and innovators in North Carolina and beyond.

Do you have a talent you’re dying to share with the world? We’re thrilled to announce the Chromatica Youth Talent Show in partnership with @NCFolkFestival! 🌟 Whether you sing, play an instrument, or both, this is your chance to shine on September 8, 2024. Submit your entry now via the link in the @aceuspirit bio, ACEU website or North Carolina Folk Festival website and join us for an unforgettable day of music and fun! 🎶💫

**Submission Process**

1. Visit the website in bio to fill out the Google Form submission.
2. Submit a video showcasing your musical talent (singing or playing an instrument).
3. Submissions must be family-friendly, and the video can be from YouTube or Google Drive.
4. Selected performers will be given a 10-12 minute music performance space and will be contacted with further details.

Black August was initiated by the Black Guerilla Family in San Quentin State Prison in 1979 when a group of incarcerated people came together to commemorate the deaths of brothers Jonathan P. Jackson (d. August 7, 1970) and George Jackson (d. August 21, 1971) at San Quentin State Prison.

“The brothers who participated in the collective founding of Black August wore black armbands on their left arm and studied revolutionary works, focusing on the works of George Jackson. The brothers did not listen to the radio or watch television in August. Additionally, they didn’t eat or drink anything from sun-up to sundown; and loud and boastful behavior was not allowed. The brothers did not support the prison’s canteen. The use of drugs and alcoholic beverages was prohibited and the brothers held daily exercises, because during Black August, emphasis is placed on sacrifice, fortitude and discipline. Black August is a time to embrace the principles of unity, self-sacrifice, political education, physical training and resistance.”

As the world is experiencing intensely uncertain times, Black August reminds us to study our revolutionaries, develop our awareness of our conditions and our politics, and honor those who have waged struggles for liberation in the US and abroad by strategizing to continue their work.
